An Equal Music is a novella published in the year 1999. The story revolves around Michael, who is a violinist by profession. The book contains a stunning documentary of the romance shared between Michael and Julia McNicholl, who is a pianist. Although they meet after more than 10 years, the two lead characters share an affair, although Julia is married and is the mother of a child as well. However, their secret affair eventually takes a toll on their career as music professionals as well as the fact that Julia is getting hard at hearing. The book establishes the fact that the author is one of the most eloquent writers in this modern-day world. Seth’s portrayal of music in the book has been praised by music fans.

The author of this book, Vikram Seth, is a well-known writer and poet, hailing from Calcutta (Kolkata), India. Born on the 20th of June 1952, the author completed his schooling from The Doon School, India, while completing his higher studies from Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and Stanford University. Some of the publications of the author include The Golden Gate, A Suitable Boy, An Equal Music, Two Lives, and A Suitable Girl. The author has also been given the Padma Shri award in Literature and Education.
